ICE Infrared Technology

Our new ZEISS ICE technology offers lenses that benefit from the latest developments in coating science. This multi-layer coating application improves a variety of technical aspects to produce the best possible lenses for athletes. The total package of our ICE-IR coating platform represents a significant improvement in lens performance compared to previous generations.

Color enhancement

ZEISS Pilla ICE lenses with IR coatings have color-enhancing properties that strengthen the color pigments incorporated into the glass and make the color filters more robust. The exclusive spectral enhancements are tuned to a specific wavelength and provide a boost for vivid colors and accurate color precision. We can precisely control both color brightening (as with our CMX or HC lenses) and color weakening (e.g. with our neutralizing lenses).

Hydrophobic and hydrophilic technology

The lenses benefit from principles that make the most of hydrophobicity and a hydrophilic technology on the back of the lens, while a color-enhancing topcoat with "IR" is used. ICE technology provides a performance advantage to the lens surface, making it extremely smooth - hence the name ICE. This solution prevents water or oils from properly adhering to the lens surface. This slipperiness reduces fogging on the back, while also making the lens extremely easy to clean as it repels oil and water. The combination of these technical coating solutions accelerates color brightening, reduces fogging, and makes the lens very easy to clean.
